Background: Avant-garde luxury department store SKP-S needed a digital campaign to develop its 2020 autumn/winter arrivals. As the store positions itself as a department store for the future—with architecture and installations inspired by how designers think living and shopping will feel on a future Martian colony—the challenge in this project was to create a lookbook with a similar aesthetic. We ended up developing a new exploration into UX and visual experiences for the fashion industry.
Design core: Featuring five virtual scenes with 3-D art designs that present each fashion trend, the digital lookbook immerses audiences into an innovative, attractive space. We explored a new aesthetic for the fashion industry by breaking reality with virtual reality; combining 2-D with 3-D spatial design; and creating immersive, 360-degree viewing experiences on a mobile platform. This also crossed over into combining the lookbook with contemporary dance by TAO Dance Theater, fashion, digital art and techno music by electronica artist MMS to convey an ultimate artistic expression and to push the chaotic, futuristic concept further.
New lessons: Combining the different technological disciplines—as well as the different artistic disciplines—gave us insight into how multidisciplinary art and virtual spaces might be in the future.
Technology: WebGL and Babylon.js.
Special technological features: We used 3-D scanning and motion capture to create the site’s content, as well as 3-D modeling and animation.
