Background: Studio Job was founded in 1998. Its highly acclaimed art and design work combines both traditional and modern techniques, producing once-in-a-lifetime objects for both the art world and for mass production. The purpose of the e-platform is to showcase the universe of Studio Job. The platform is accessible to a big target audience varying from art collectors, Instagram fans and elderly art fanatics.
Highlights: The concept of the contemporary scroll is the headliner of this project. The idea arose with the need of being able to see all the work Studio Job has done on one single page. The menu is one big filter where users can narrow down the collection with fun visual filters and a very smart search bar. The filter icons are collaboratively designed between Studio Job and us.
Challenges: To translate the world of Studio Job into a functional webshop. Studio Job’s work is vibrant and outspoken, so users can get lost easily. The studio wanted a platform that looks like an art piece by itself, so it had to have the same visual language as its work. Our solution was to design a Mondrian-style grid with thick borders between the art pieces. This way, we could display everything in a blown up fashion without making it looking too restless.
Favorite details: We’re proud of our client. Not only does the studio make jaw- dropping work, it also has exceptional intuition on how to fill the content properly, which is just as important as the website itself.
Time constraints: It took a year from the first meeting to the final product. We usually deliver a website when it’s done. This is one of our key features here at Build in Amsterdam. We tinker with the website to perfection, and even after the launch, we improve with insight from new users.
Technical features: Even with a content-heavy platform, we still managed to keep the website fast and agile. We achieved this by separating the CMS from the front-end, enabling us to use ReactJS on both the front-end as well as on the server, keeping a combination of Wordpress and Woocommerce. This CMS solution makes it easy for the client to manage the content. Also, our current setup is so fast that we had build smooth page transitions to give users more time to process page changes.
