Background: Stykka’s site has three main target groups: consumers that want to buy an already designed piece of furniture, consumers that want Stykka to help bring their own designs to life, and organizations and companies who want to commission Stykka to help create bigger projects in housing or interior design. The site gravitates towards the readymade furniture and the possibility to buy these products.
Design core: I think we really captured the DNA of the company with this site. Stykka uses CNC-type machines to cut materials, and we took that in as an inspiration for the UI design: on the site, lines flow together, and corners are rounded. Furthermore, we looked at the technical drawings and parts lists, and this inspired the look of the basket, the mobile navigation and other visual elements. We always try to find one concept in our solutions that ties it all together and makes it into a true one-off. We are design agnostic and always design on the premises of the brand.
Favorite details: The UI design coupled with the small animations and microinteractions make the site stand out. It feels truly custom and tailored to this client in particular. The client themselves said that we have made the most beautiful basket design ever. Another detail is the scroll-controlled 3-D renders, which give a really nice interactive feel. You can find this on the LastDesk™ product page in particular.
Challenges: Finding ways to display the different product types where communication hierarchy would make sense for each. This had to make sense for the user but also in the back end for the editor. The site is modular in it structure, and together with sections for clusters of modules, we made this possible.
Technology: We built Stykka’s site on Shopify, and it is quite challenging to build something as custom as this site on that platform. The product page especially is limited on Shopify, but we expanded a lot on those possibilities. I think we succeeded quite well.
