To spark a creative community and conversation, Toronto-based agency FREE designed and developed The Creator Class. A portfolio-meets-social network, the site enables creatives to display their projects using #TheCreatorClass hashtag on Instagram. On the homepage, the designers and thinkers of FREE open up about their processes and lives in short videos. For example, director Mathew Frost shows a satirical glimpse of his birthday party, where he sings karaoke alone—thereby revealing the inner workings of a lighthearted creative who doesn’t take his projects or himself too seriously. Short clips that follow photographers show the nitty gritty of their craft in an innovative format, including shutter speed and aperture data. Users can browse creators and genres, or even look at a high-level overview of one creators’ portfolio. Admirers of creative work took notice: between November and January, the site received 21,000 unique visitors.
