Background: The website was created to circulate information about THE PARFAIT STAND, a recently opened store by Japanese confectionary BAKE Inc., in the Harajuku district in Tokyo that specializes in takeout parfaits. A popular spot for young people, the target audience is boys and girls in their teens and twenties.
Highlights: The design tones and colors were selected so that users with a high sense for fashion can recognize the brand as something that fits with their own style. Additionally, the pictures of the parfaits on the website make users feel that the products are cute and delicious.
Challenges: Making sure the site was suitable for smartphones, as we expected that most of the users would access the site that way. We also wanted to ensure that users didn’t have to wait too long for the site to load, while incorporating surprising animations.
Favorite details: The icons used for the main visuals were created to resemble emoticons that users would be familiar with and would find cute. We also think it is cool and delightful that the transitions appear when the users click the ＋ button.
Navigational structure: We were careful to make the navigation design simple, and any elements that seemed overly explanatory were omitted. Additionally, the screen that shows up when the ＋ button is clicked was designed to present the products as earnestly and faithfully as possible. Our client creates the parfaits with great care and we wanted to express that on the site.
Time constraints: We had a tight schedule of one month, which included everything from planning to design and coding. Instead of a waterfall production style, we had to be agile; the designs were prepared during the planning process, and shared with engineers even before they were completed. Production progress was made while researching feasibility.
