Background: The Théâtre de la Ville is one of the oldest performing arts institutions in Paris. However, it has been closed for renovation for about a year. In the meantime, to keep on producing new shows, the company is doing its entire program “outdoors” and has partnered up with over 20 venues to host the shows. The purpose of the site was to modernize its image and find a way to display its “outdoor” program for a few years, before the season is played again in-house.
Highlights: The website is centered around three main features: the season, with all details for each event; the agenda, which includes an infinite scroll timeline to explore and filter the whole season; and the news section, which contains articles and info around the events.
Challenges: Creating an agenda and a timetable for one theater organizing events in 20 different venues was definitely a first!
Navigational structure: The goal was to focus on the event type, which included Opera, Dance and Music, so we created a menu with a quick access for those entries. Also, the Calendar and News sections can be displayed all the time without reloading. The entire navigation is coded in Ajax so the pages are preloaded with the over flight of the links, and are cached.
