Curated by art director and designer Michele Angeloro, Tokyo Soup offers a collection of Japanese art, design and style that showcases Japan’s creative culture. With design by Angeloro and development by Valentin Cervellera, the site features a minimal layout with a dynamic navigation system. “I wanted Tokyo Soup to be as minimalistic and clean as possible, featuring emotional pictures and mixing simplicity with a sophisticated, dynamic navigation,” says Angeloro. “Tokyo Soup features a unique search engine that allows the user to type and search basically anywhere on the site without the need to click to open hidden panels or look for tiny search buttons.” Visitors can search using keywords simply by typing them in on any page. Scrolling animations make images appear to converge at the top of the page, recalling both the fluidity of soup as well as the cultural interconnectedness of Tokyo Soup’s featured artists and designers.
The Swiss strategic design agency’s site marries classic site design with modern navigation sensibilities.
