Responses by Artemii Lebedev, designer and developer.

Background: The website was developed in collaboration with the German platform CHECK24, which enables users to book flights and hotels. Together with Kevin Bürger, the founder of Travel Next Level, we created a website that provides travel enthusiasts with access to unique destinations and experiences. Serving as a guide to the hidden gems of our vast world, the site will continue to evolve, introducing partner programs and a vast library of unique cultural, culinary and experiential highlights.

The website’s target audience includes middle-income individuals aged 24 to 60 who value meaningful experiences and have a passion for travel. These are people seeking unique opportunities to create moments they’ll cherish for a lifetime. The concept of the open door symbolizes the transformative experiences awaiting when stepping into new worlds—different countries and cultures.

Design core: The core design style revolves around minimalism and bold typography, paired with a slightly irregular grid for easy readability and visual interest. Striking, carefully curated imagery brings the site’s clean, modern look to life and adds a sense of magic and purity to the user experience.

Favorite details: One standout feature we are particularly proud of is the immersive experience created by the first screen and subsequent scrolling. The opening door draws users into a captivating world, revealing a mystical landscape with a breathtaking view of a passing airplane that symbolizes the beginning of an exciting journey.

Additionally, we took great care to make the blog page aesthetically impressive, with a sleek, scalable structure that ensures functionality remains seamless as the content grows. This balance of form and function underscores the site’s commitment to both beauty and usability.

Challenges: There were a few challenges during the development process. The first was implementing the personal account feature, which enables users to save favorite destinations and articles. It was my first experience handling such functionality from a back-end perspective. Surprisingly, it turned out to be less complicated than I initially thought. The functionality relies on conditions and data attributes to control the visibility of content based on whether a user is registered.

Another challenge was integrating 3-D interactive elements that operate smoothly and quickly without overwhelming the user. However, with modern compression and rendering technologies, achieving this balance was possible.

Time constraints: Fortunately, we didn’t have strict time constraints. Kevin didn’t rush the process, letting everything progress naturally and at the pace required. A major advantage was Kevin’s active involvement in generating ideas and providing feedback; his contributions often sparked new perspectives, making the project a true collaborative effort where ideas complemented each other beautifully.

New lessons: Recently, I’ve been working more frequently on multilingual sites. While I don’t speak German, Kevin handled all the translations as he’s from Germany. This exposed me to interesting aspects of the German language. For instance, I learned that all nouns in German must start with a capital letter, which gave me a new perspective on text formatting. Additionally, German words are often two-to-three times longer than their English counterparts, requiring thoughtful adjustments to ensure the layout functions correctly in both language versions. These insights have enriched my approach to multilingual design and development.

Navigational structure: The navigation is straightforward and intuitive. The site consists of several key pages, including Home, Blog, Destinations, Hotels and Contact.

In the personal account section, all content is organized into tabs, which simplifies the structure and lets content load reactively.

The header navigation is structured into related blocks, enabling clear separation of categories. This approach also makes future scaling seamless by maintaining a consistent method for organizing new content.

Technology: The front end uses Webflow and Lenis Scroll. The back end uses Amazon S3, Cloudflare, Memberstack and Webflow. To create the design, I used After Effects, Cinema4D, Figma and Redshift.

Special technical features: The standout features include custom solutions for 3-D integration and extending functionality beyond the limitations of the Webflow platform. These implementations required meticulous attention to detail and cross-browser compatibility to ensure a seamless user experience across various devices and browsers. Occasionally, I had to write custom scripts to dynamically fetch and load information from one section to another using JavaScript.
