Background: The purpose of this site was to share Obys’s principles of working with typography, as well as some secrets of our use of it in our work. At the same time, we wanted to inform visitors on the basic principles for working with typography. We added some educational components and characteristics, such as a little quiz on examples of typography use. Initially, we wanted to make a useful site for beginners and junior designers as the target audience; after launch, however, we’ve been getting many pleasant words from experienced designers whose projects we love.
Design core: Specifically for this project, our designers created posters that formed the beginning of each chapter on the site, which we then made visually interesting with on-scroll animations and transitions. We tried to visualize all the principles of working with typography and show them clearly. Also for this site, we used a grid—something that is unusual for us.
New lessons: The creation of the three posters proved to be challenging for the web designer. This site taught him how to do that. Again, per our example, we have shown how web and graphic design are closely linked.
Navigation structure: The site has three sections on how we use fonts, how we combine fonts and which rules we follow. For better information perception, we chose a long-read format—not boring storytelling. This site aims to be a good guideline for the world of typography.
Technology: This is no surprise to our friends and followers, but we used Readymag. The design was created in Figma, and with Readymag’s help, we made it come to life. Amongst our team at Obys, we joke that we have become ambassadors of Readymag.
