Background: A respected, experienced catering firm, Well Dunn has served the DC, Maryland and Virginia markets for more than 35 years. Despite its stellar reputation, the catering company was running into challenges breaking into the highest end of the market for the region’s largest events. With this new site, we set out to showcase the team’s experience and capabilities, and how they offer both innovative cuisine and impeccable service.
Challenges: Catering is a highly competitive and crowded market. It was important that Well Dunn’s site be unique while also remaining true to who they are. This redesign was also a huge shift for the brand—everything from the logo, the color palette, the images and the copy are new. It was our job not just to design and build the site, but help Well Dunn know that this was the right business decision.
Favorite details: We’re really proud of the overall design direction, which is quite unconventional for a caterer. We gravitated towards this horizontal layout because it works as both a highlight reel and a sales presentation. It’s not something Well Dunn was used to seeing—or expected—but they trusted us and ended up loving this approach. Using color blocks throughout the layout to mask image slideshows and break up stories are simple but feel exactly like we envisioned.
Technology: We built the site on a customized WordPress implementation. This enabled us to make it fully managed by the client without having to sacrifice anything on the design or development side. The build is also based on modules, which makes new page creation incredibly quick and simple.
