This site takes a humorous approach to educating high school seniors about career opportunities in the U.S. Air Force. Acting as a portal to the main Air Force site, its most notable characteristic is its complete noncompliance with convention. It’s a clear departure from any expectation of a site supporting a branch of the armed services. If the goal of Web sites is to get people to stick around long enough to get a message across, then this one, with its game-like interface, is a hands-down winner. And, while we’re sure there are many people who won’t agree with the approach, we’re impressed with its ability to engage its audience.
• The site opens with a single question (What am I gonna do with my life?) scrawled across the browser window, a series of animated doodles and a tongue-in-cheek approach.
• The anti-navigation (as the developers like to call it) is loose, informal and playful but nevertheless uses clear iconography to link to Air Force careers.
• Content contrasts Air Force and alternative “career” options (that for the most part, humorously don’t pan-out) for high school seniors.
