Background: The site’s purpose is to show a wide range of my design work including brand identity, prints, and interaction design to the designers and potential clients.

Design core: The core visual expression and interaction that I’m most excited about is the images that overlay on top of the headline. It surprises users as they scroll down to the page. The marquee header is also a highlight of the website: I love how the two lines run at different speed, giving the site more depth.

Challenges: Finding the right look and feel, as well as the voice for the website, to express me as a designer. It’s harder to design for yourself in general—I know myself inside and out, and there are too many aspects that I want to express! I created more than ten very different design directions and eventually narrowed it down with friends’ feedback.

Other than that, the deployment presented a challenge as well. I am a designer by training with limited coding skills; I created this site on my own and did a lot of research on the marquee effect.

Time constraints: No time constraints, actually, which is also stressful. The site is a personal project, which I created after work and on the weekends. It all came down to self-discipline when completing a project like this in about three months, from concept to publication.

Divergent paths: If I could, I would add more colors and some icons. I actually did during my design exploration; in fact, I had many vibrant colors for some design directions. However, it’s very hard to land on a longlasting color combination. Colors are fun, but I found I would grow to hate them the longer I looked at my site.

Technology: I used Semplice as the framework and added custom CSS and JavaScript elements. For deployment, I used Figma.
