Background: YZA Voku is a director and visual artist based in Madrid. With training in art direction, photography and film, YZA has sought to explore new forms of artistic expression through the use of generative AI software. The website reflects this exploration, providing a space to showcase his artistic vision.
Design core: The design, interaction, animations—the entire website revolves around two key concepts that represent the artist’s identity: the point, which is part of his visual brand, and the loop, an element that represents his visual production skills. The site experience immerses visitors in these concepts through two design elements: The menu is anchored at the center of the screen, symbolizing the point as the central element; it always changes size from that point to reinforce the idea of being at the center. And the title viewer only moves in one direction, evoking the idea of an infinite loop.
Additionally, the interface has a circular shape, with an infinite slider serving as the background. From here, the images distort to evoke the sensation of being inside a dome.
Favorite details: Although we are very proud of the entire website, the project detail page is our favorite. When you access a project’s information, a giant, pulsating point appears in the center of the screen, framing the title. The point becomes brighter as the user scrolls, seemingly coming to life by responding to the user’s movement. Conceptually, the goal is to represent the artist observing the user in a kind of interplay that illustrates the relationship between the creator, the work and the viewer. Imbuing it with a cinematic touch, the color, size and noise change at different frequencies—60 fps, 21 fps and 10 fps—to create a bespoke contrast.
Challenges: Striking a balance between a design with a strong personality and respecting YZA’s art. The goal was to create a website that complemented his creations without overshadowing them. We believe we’ve achieved a result full of character that doesn’t eclipse YZA Voku’s amazing work.
Special navigational features: The menu morphs according to the current needs of the page, displaying controls, file filters and links—but all in a single line of text that changes size from the center.
