"The Emigre 38 cover was part of the fallout from the work we did for Custom Papers Group. The only direction Rudy gave us was to make sure we put a car on the cover. When it hit the newsstand, Tower Books put this issue on the automotive rack. One can only imagine the dismay of Challenger enthusiasts when they discovered that they had just purchased a magazine with a fancy cover filled with pages of dry design discourse. Lower right: When Custom Papers Group asked us to create an identity system for their various lines, illustrating custom cars and custom lettering, it was a no-brainer that resulted in a unique and timeless aesthetic."
